Backup exclusions

Several large, easily recreatable, system directories such as /usr/share/doc are excluded from backups. Importantly for users, so is /tmp.

I now have the disk space and bandwidth to do nightly backups of puzzling.org in its entirety! So from midnight tonight I will begin backups, automatically taking one every 24 hours starting at about midnight Sydney time.
I will keep 10 days worth of backups most of the time, so if you have accidently deleted something [...]

More disk space

Linode allocated more disk space in their usual birthday reverse-present style. We haven’t been tight on /home for a while but nevertheless I’ve allocated extra. Use df -h to see the new disk space amounts.

The puzzling.org server is now located in a California data centre and all should have returned to normal.

The puzzling.org server will move to a new data centre (in California rather than Texas) sometime within the next twelve hours. Nothing other than latency should change for existing users, but there will be substantial (perhaps more than an hour) downtime.
